Our junior section is one of the largest in the York area. Its primary aim is to develop young people with the technical, tactical, mental and physical attributes CACC senior teams need.

But we also want to inspire juniors to develop a passion for cricket that keeps them involved with CACC – as umpires, scorers, sponsors, social members or supporters – for years to come.

This means we can put out A teams at age groups from Under 9 to Under 15 that can compete for and often win trophies. And we can also put out other teams dedicated to developing individuals as people and as players.

We run mixed-gender teams at all age groups as well as being a hub for girls’ cricket in York. We also run ECB All-Stars courses for children aged 5-8 during the junior season and ECB Dynamo Cricket courses for 8-11 year-old girls.

Our success in meeting our goals can be seen by the high number of youth players who turn out for our senior teams on a weekend. We promote players to the senior teams, when our coaches believe they are ready, from U13s upwards.

Junior cricketers playing an indoor match

We have strong links with the Yorkshire Cricket Board and MCC organisations that operate the representative teams and pathways that can lead into the professional game. Many of our former and current junior players have represented Yorkshire CCC at age-group level. And many more have gone on to enjoy the game at all levels for the rest of their lives.

Our junior section is run by a passionate group of volunteer coaches. This represents an opportunity for parents who want to take a hands-on role in developing their children’s cricketing careers; for adult players who want to stay involved in the game after hanging up their pads; or for younger adults who want to develop careers of their own in cricket or as teachers, psychologists, youth workers or in a range of other professions.
